Arriving in Bidart

The summer school takes place in Bi-Izarrak, in Bidart, a nice village on the Basque coast. Here is how to reach (1) the Basque region, then (2) Bidart or Guethary (walking distance from Bidart), and (3) Bi-Izarrak. 
Do not hesitate to contact the trainers to get advice on your travel plan.

1. First, reach one of these "entry points":

To Biarritz airport

  • All year round
    • Paris CDG : 3 to 4 daily direct flights (Easyjet & Air France),
    • Paris Orly West : 6 daily direct flights (Air France)
    • Lyon : 2 to 3 daily direct direct flights (Hop!) & Easyjet in July & August
    • all French airports, Northern Italy, Brussel & Luxembourg : 2 to 3 daily connections via Lyon (check mapwith Hop! 
    • few French airports & few European cities (London City, Milan Linate, Roma Fiumicino, Istanbul) via Paris Orly with Air France
    • London 2 to 7 weekly (Ryanair)
    • Madrid 1 daily (Iberia)
  • Seasonal direct flights: 2 to 3 weekly flights from Birmingham, Brussels, Copenhaguen, Dublin, Geneva, Helsinki, Lille, Marseille, Nice, Souhtampton, Stockholm, Strasbourg. Check Biarritz airport

To Donostia / San Sebastian airport (situated in the city of Hondarribia, on the FR/ES border)

To Bordeaux airport, and then to Guethary or Biarritz train station (less convenient)

  • Fly to Bordeaux airport
  • via Pessac train station to Guethary (easier)
    • from the airport to Pessac train station:
      • easy option: 15 min taxi (20€ approx.)
      • bus 48: 20 min (1.40€)
        • When leaving the aiport, call asap +33 (0) 5 57 57 89 99 for the next bus to Pessac to come & pick you at the airport. (on the way to the airport, simply ask the driver to stop at the airport )
    • from Pessac train station to Guethary: regional train, 2h, up to 5 direct daily trains.
  • via Bordeaux St Jean to Biarritz or Guethary (longer and more expensive)
    • from the airport to Bordeaux St Jean: direct shuttle 1/hour, 30 min (7€)
    • from Bordeaux St Jean to Biarritz: up to 5 TGV direct daily trains
    • from Bordeaux St Jean to Guethary: regional train, 2h, up to 5 direct daily trains

To Hendaye or Irun

  • From Portugal, daily night train "Sud Expresso" Lisboa / Porto <-> Hendaye,
  • From Spain, reach Irun by bus, Hendaye by train 

To Biarritz TGV & Intercity train station

  • Paris:
    • from Paris Montparnasse: up to 5 direct TGV train & up to 2 direct idTGV (low-cost ticketing of the same trains)
    • from Paris Austerlitz: Intercity night train (on week-end & more during French holidays)
    • booking opens 90 days before travel date
  • Bordeaux: regional train line 61 (Bordeaux - ... - Biarritz- ... - Hendaye). No reservation.
  • Toulouse, direct intercity trains (2 to 3 per day)
  • Tours, Poitiers, Nantes, Quimper, Limoges: trains to Biarritz or Guethary via Bordeaux

2. Then, Reach Bidart or Guethary train station (at walking distance from Bidart)

From San Sebastian airport

  • First reach Hendaye train station:
    • take a taxi to Irun Ficobia - Euskotren station & puente peatonal por Hendaya (7 min - 10 € approx.) Walk straight accross the pedestrian bridge to reach Hendaye train station (500m straight walk, cf map)
    • or take a taxi straight to the entrance of Hendaye train station (20€, more expensive as it becomes an "international transfer")
  • Then, see below from Hendaye.

From Irun bus & train stations

  • First, reach take Euskotren to Hendaye train station (trains departs from Irun Colon at min 18 & 4of every hour, the ride takes 4 min)
  • Then, see below from Hendaye.

From Hendaye train station

  • quick option: regional train to Guethary (18 minup to 13 trains / day)
  • slow option: ATCRB bus 816, direction Bayonne, 2€ (pay at driver)exit at Bidart Plage (stop on request, press the button!). 45 minup to 10 buses per day

From Biarritz airport

  • take ATCRB bus 816, direction Hendaye, 
    • ask for a ticket to Bidart and pay at driver (2€)
    • exit at Bidart Plage (15 min, stop on request, press the button!)
  • take Chronoplus line C, direction Bidart UHABIA
    • be careful, line C has 2 southern terminus, do not board a bus toward Bidart Izarbel
    • pay ticket at driver (1€) and exit at last stop of the line (20 min)
  • take a taxi (15 min, 25€)

From Biarritz TGV & Intercity train station

  • take Chronoplus line C, direction Bidart UHABIA
    • be careful, line C has 2 southern terminus, do not board a bus toward Bidart Izarbel
    • pay ticket at driver (1€) and exit at last stop of the line (less than 15min)
  • take a taxi (10 min, 20€)

3. Reach Bi-Izarrak center

Please inform us about your arrival plan: we may be able welcome you directly in Bidart (bus stops) or Guethary train station, together with other participants.

  • The address of the training centre is Bi-Izarrak, chemin Ithurbidea, Bidart

  • You can walk to Bi-Izarrak in 15 to 30 minutes from:
    • Chronoplus line C "Bidart Uhabia" terminus stop : 1.3km
    • ATCRB "Bidart Plage" bus stop : 1.7km
    • Guethary train station : 2 km
    • Beware, this is a short, yet uphill walk, on small rural roads, without proper pedestrian side walk. Street lighting is limited or absent in some sections. We advise you to print the google map as there are no indications there.
